Once a social worker has qualified, the learning doesn't stop there. There are still plenty of learning opportunities and support available, enabling social workers to maintain and extend their skills and knowledge and to help fulfil continuous professional development requirements.
Assessed and supported year in employment
Recommended by the Social Work Task Force, the ASYE for newly qualified social workers builds on and succeeds the existing NQSW programme to provide social workers and their employers with an understanding of the appropriate capabilities which NQSWs should develop in the first stage of their career.
Newly qualified social workers
Our established 12-month Newly Qualified Social Worker (NQSW) programme has been supporting newly qualified social workers (NQSWs) who are in their first year of employment. The programme was designed to ensure that NQSWs have access to high quality development opportunities, which will broaden their skills and knowledge obtained through their initial training and gain a firm foundation for future career development.
The NQSW programme closed to new registrations in March 2012. Since September 2012, employers and NQSWs have been able to benefit from a single Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE) programme covering both the children and families and adults’ sectors.Early professional development for social workers
Building on the established NQSW programme, the Early Professional Development (EPD) programme has been helping social workers develop their skills and knowledge in their second and third years of employment. The programme was set up to support the further development of social workers as confident, capable and independent professionals.
