Deprivation funding review
The Government has been taking steps to ensure that the funding for social deprivation in the Dedicated Schools Grant is properly reflected in local funding formulae as follows:
- May 2008: Letter to local authorities asking them to check their 2007-08 baseline deprivation templates prior to publication in the summer. Frequently asked questions have now been added to the guidance and template published in August 2007 [added 01 May 2008].
- August 2007: publication of guidance and a standard template to help local authorities assess the quantity of deprivation funding distributed through the local formula in 2007-08. This will provide a baseline against which further progress in targeting funding through the local formula can be measured.
- June 2007: Jim Knight's statement of 25 June 2007 on School, Early Years and 14-16 funding 2008-11 set out the further steps the Department is taking to ensure that deprivation funding in the Dedicated Schools Grant is properly reflected in local funding formulae.
- August 2006: publication of local authorities statements of policy and practice.
- December 2005: publication of the joint Department/Treasury Report, Child Poverty: Fair Funding for Schools.
