Experiences of teacher/researcher ethics during postgraduate research
There are now 57 different providers/consortiums running programmes for the Postgraduate Professional Development (PPD) funded by the Training Agency (TA). The funding will allow provider partnerships to offer 31,000 training opportunities for teachers. There must be a research element to the award bearing courses at Master's (M) level in order to get funding.
With so many teachers researching, questions of ethics and ethical guidelines will arise including the importance and rights of the individuals involved. Children will inevitably be participants in the research.
So what does ethics look like in practice? This paper draws on the experiences of the National Teacher Research Panel members and explores some of the questions that the Panel is addressing in challenging its own ethical guidelines.
