Local authorities that have chosen to collect and submit teacher assessment on behalf of their schools should follow these instructions.

If you are providing a service to academies outside of your local area then you will not be able to submit teacher assessment and P scale data on their behalf. The academy must submit its data directly to STA using the NCA tools website.

If you are uploading multiple teacher assessment files, you can do so using a ‘zip’ file. The zip file can contain both common transfer files (CTFs) and relevant key stage template files, but each individual file must only contain details for one school.

How to upload a CTF

  • Log into the Teacher assessment section of the NCA tools website.
  • Select ‘Submit teacher assessment’ in the left-hand menu.
  • Follow the checklist that highlights the preparation required to submit teacher assessment data using a CTF.
  • Select ‘Browse’ to locate the teacher assessment file saved on your computer.
  • Click on the file to be uploaded and select ‘Submit’.

After you have selected ‘Submit’ you will receive a green, amber or red report about your submission. The reports are explained below.

How to upload data using a template

  • Log into the Teacher assessment section of the NCA tools website.
  • Select ‘Submit teacher assessment’ in the left-hand menu.
  • Click on ‘key stage template’ below the checklist. When uploading a template file, please ensure that the school’s DfE number is included in the filename. The filename should be in the following format: KS2_DFENUMBER_00N

The DfE number should be seven digits long. ‘N’ represents the version number of the file, for example ‘001’ for the first version.

  • Click on the file to be uploaded and select ‘Submit’.

After you have selected ‘Submit’ you will receive a green, amber or red report about your submission. The reports are explained on the Submission reports page.
