Beacon schools

Scope note / definition

Introduced in September 1998 and phased out by August 2005. It started with a pilot of 75 schools across all phases of education until it reached a maximum of 1,150 schools in September 2002. Beacon Schools were schools which were identified as among the best performing in the country.
